TikTok Shop is a channel where the customer buys while watching a video, a LIVE stream or a creator profile, without leaving the app. For an online store it means a new market, but also a completely new set of requirements: a separate category tree, mandatory attributes, GPSR data, certificates, image limits and an order cancellation window. Most stores that tried to enter TikTok Shop “quickly” got stuck on rejected listings and retyping orders by hand.
Below is the checklist I go through with clients before they start selling on TikTok Shop from a PrestaShop store. The order is deliberate: we start with the things without which the integration will not launch at all, and end with the ones that decide whether you will still be in control after a month. For every point I note what can be automated and what has to be prepared by hand.
1. Seller account and an app in TikTok Shop Partner Center
Selling starts with an account in TikTok Shop Seller Center. That is where you register the company, warehouses, delivery options and manufacturers. If you want to connect your store through the API instead of listing products by hand, you also need an app in TikTok Shop Partner Center with product, order and logistics permissions.
Why it matters
The most common cause of errors during the first export is not code but permissions. The API package added in Partner Center has to be accepted on the seller account side, and a missing scope (e.g. logistics) only shows up when you try to ship a parcel. The integration connects to the account via OAuth: you enter the app details, click “Connect to TikTok Shop” and authorise the store. A good module immediately shows the list of granted scopes, the token expiry date and the shop ID.

- Create a Seller Center account and fill in company details, warehouse and delivery options.
- Create an app in Partner Center and add the permission package for products, orders and logistics.
- If an integrator does the implementation, generate a one-time authorisation link for the store owner instead of sharing passwords.
- Test the integration in the sandbox environment before products reach customers.
2. A SKU on every product and every combination
TikTok identifies products and variants by SKU. In PrestaShop that is the reference field on the product and on the combination. If it is empty, the integration will not match listings created earlier by hand in Seller Center, you will get duplicates, and every price or stock update will go nowhere.
Why it matters
The SKU is the only stable key between the store and the marketplace. A product name can change, you only learn the TikTok ID after the first export, and an EAN does not always exist. A module that recognises products by SKU updates existing listings instead of creating new ones, including those previously rejected by moderation.
If your catalogue has combinations without a reference, fill them in before the first export. Adding SKUs afterwards means matching listings by hand in Seller Center.

3. TikTok categories and mandatory attributes
Every product has to be assigned to a category from TikTok’s own tree, not your store’s. Every category has its own list of mandatory attributes with allowed values: material composition, size, colour, gender, season, and technical parameters in electronics. Without the full set the product is rejected.
Why it matters
This is the most labour-intensive point on the whole list. Mapping several hundred products to TikTok categories and attributes by hand takes days, and when the category tree changes it has to be repeated. In the PrestaShop TikTok Shop module category mapping is supported by an AI assistant, attribute values are matched from product features (including material composition such as “95% viscose, 5% elastane”), and a default value is set once for the whole category. PrestaShop attribute groups (size, colour) are mapped to TikTok sales attributes.

- Download the current TikTok category tree and map the categories with the most products first.
- Set default values for mandatory attributes per category.
- Fill in product features in PrestaShop, from which the module derives per-product values.
- Run pre-flight validation: missing attributes should stop the export with a link to the screen where you can complete them.
4. GPSR: manufacturer and EU responsible person
The GPSR regulation requires the manufacturer and the person responsible for the product in the European Union to be stated. TikTok Shop enforces this when a listing is created and rejects products without this data. It does not matter that your store already has this information: TikTok has to receive it in its own format.
Why it matters
Manufacturers and responsible persons are registered in Seller Center. The integration should fetch that list, let you assign the right entry to products or whole categories, and then attach it to every export. A TikTok error about GPSR should lead straight to the right configuration section, not to an error code in a log. If you already keep a GPSR register in your store, see how to do it once in the article on EU law requirements for PrestaShop.
5. Images, package weight and dimensions
TikTok accepts images between 300 and 4000 px and requires package weight and dimensions to calculate shipping and select a carrier. A product without weight will not be listed, and an image outside the limit is rejected outright, not rescaled.
Why it matters
In a store with a thousand products, checking dimensions by hand makes no sense. It is better to set defaults for products without data and units consistent with the store (kg/g, cm/mm), and replace images outside the requirements with a matching thumbnail. When exporting through the API, images should be uploaded to TikTok once and again only after the file is replaced. With a large catalogue that is the difference between an hour and a day of synchronisation.
6. Certificates and size charts
Some categories require documents: cosmetics, toys, electronics, children’s clothing, supplements. TikTok expects certificates, declarations of conformity or size charts as JPG, PNG, WEBP or PDF, attached to the listing.
Why it matters
Documents are usually shared by a whole category. Prepare them before launch and assign them once per category, so the integration attaches them to every product automatically. The list of categories that require documents changes, so it helps when the module fetches it from the API and flags a missing document during pre-flight validation.
7. Pricing policy and a stock buffer for TikTok
Prices on TikTok Shop do not have to match your store. Marketplace commission, creator campaigns and TikTok promotions call for a separate pricing policy. Decide whether you apply a percentage or fixed mark-up, rounding, and whether PrestaShop specific prices are included.
Why it matters
The second element is a stock buffer. Stock syncs with a delay measured in seconds or minutes, so the last unit can be sold in the store and on TikTok at the same time. Showing a few units fewer on TikTok than you have in the warehouse protects you from overselling and cancellations that lower your seller rating.
Every price, specific price or stock change in PrestaShop should go into a queue and be pushed to TikTok automatically. If someone has to remember it, they will eventually forget.
8. Orders: cancellation window, carrier and e-mail addresses
A TikTok order should reach PrestaShop only once TikTok releases it for fulfilment (AWAITING_SHIPMENT status). Orders cancelled by the customer within the cancellation window should never appear in the store, otherwise the warehouse packs a parcel nobody will collect.
Why it matters
A TikTok order has to become a full PrestaShop order: with a customer, address, carrier, shipping cost and status, so that the same process and the same ERP handle it as all the others. Choose the carrier that receives TikTok orders and the customer mode: a shared technical account, a guest order, or an account with the buyer’s e-mail address. Remember that the TikTok API returns masked addresses: real e-mail addresses come from a CSV export in Seller Center and can be assigned to orders in the store with one click.

- Import orders via webhook and cron; import manually from a chosen date only at the first launch.
- Match products by combination SKU, product SKU or variant name, in that order.
- Store the TikTok order number in the order note so the ERP can see it through the webservice.
- Enable silent mode during testing so TikTok customers do not receive e-mails from a staging store.
9. Statuses and tracking numbers in both directions
When you add a tracking number in PrestaShop it has to go back to TikTok and the parcel has to be marked as shipped. A cancellation or return on the TikTok side has to come back to the store. Without this, handling TikTok orders ends with retyping numbers by hand in two panels.
Why it matters
Plan the mapping of PrestaShop carriers to TikTok carriers (the list is fetched from your warehouses and delivery options in TikTok Shop), the hand-over method (courier pickup or drop-off at a point) and order status mapping in both directions. Dedicated statuses in PrestaShop (new from TikTok, awaiting shipment, shipped, cancelled, returned) make filtering and reporting easier.

10. Cron, queue and logs
Product export, price and stock updates and order import should run in the background, in a prioritised queue with retries on API rate limits (HTTP 429) and network errors. Heavy operations must never slow down the back office or the storefront.
Why it matters
Set up cron (CLI or a secret URL) and make sure you have access to API logs with filters, CSV export and masking of tokens and personal data. The logs are what let you understand why TikTok rejected a listing. A diagnostics screen with connection, permission, token and server requirement tests (PHP, curl, openssl) saves hours during implementation and after every store update.

What all these points have in common
Each of them is about data the store has, or should have, just in a different format than TikTok expects. The problem is not that TikTok Shop is difficult, but that it demands completeness and consistency: full SKUs, product features, weights, documents and up-to-date stock. A store with this data in order enters TikTok Shop in a few days. A store without it gets stuck on the first rejected listings regardless of the module.
A simple pre-launch checklist
- Seller Center account and a Partner Center app with the full permission package.
- SKUs on all products and combinations, ideally with EAN.
- Mapped categories and default values for mandatory attributes.
- Manufacturers and responsible persons (GPSR) registered in Seller Center.
- Images 300–4000 px, weight and dimensions or defaults.
- Certificates and size charts assigned to categories.
- Mark-up, rounding and a stock buffer agreed for the TikTok channel.
- Carrier, customer mode and order import from the AWAITING_SHIPMENT status.
- Status and carrier mapping in both directions.
- Cron, queue, logs and a diagnostics screen.
What the integration does for you
Points 3, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 are fully handled by RB TikTok Shop Pro, the PrestaShop TikTok Shop integration module, compatible with PrestaShop 8.x and 9.x. Pre-flight validation stops the export with a link to the screen where you can complete the missing data, and the AI assistant explains API error messages in plain language and suggests what to fix. If you also sell on InPost Merchant, both channels run from one back office. How the implementation itself goes is described in the article on PrestaShop TikTok Shop integration.
When to hand the implementation to someone else
With a few dozen products without variants you will get through this list on your own in a day. With hundreds of products with combinations, an ERP or warehouse system connected to PrestaShop and several shops in multistore, an implementation with someone who knows TikTok’s requirements and the PrestaShop API usually pays for itself with the first rejected listings that never happen.
Frequently asked questions
Can I list only part of my catalogue on TikTok Shop?
Yes. You select products manually, set export rules (active only, in stock only, minimum stock) and can exclude individual products on their product sheet or force the export of a specific product.
What about products I have already listed by hand in Seller Center?
If their SKUs match the references in PrestaShop, the integration recognises them and starts updating them instead of creating duplicates. This also applies to listings previously rejected by moderation.
Will TikTok customers receive e-mails from my store?
It depends on the customer mode and the silent mode setting. You can import orders without sending any messages and enable notifications only after testing is complete.
Does the integration need Composer or an extra server?
No. PrestaShop 8.0–9.x, PHP 7.4–8.3 with the curl and openssl extensions and a cron job to process the queue are enough. The module does not modify core files and works in multistore with a separate connection per shop.
